Kim and Roxanne Kerley - Directors of Teen Round-Up
Kim and Roxanne met in CA when Kim Kerley, son of Bud and Joy Kerley, founders of Teen Round-Up went to CA to work on a job for Hallibuton. They met at Canyon Hills Christian singles in 1992. In 1995 they moved to OK to help Kerley's parents run the Teen Round-Up camp. It was in 1998 that Kim and Roxanne established the free summer camp program. Roxanne Kerley had been through a divorce and had 2 small children and knew what it was like to not have enough money for summer activities such as summer camp. Roxanne's dream was born through the pain of divorce and single parenthood. She decided to start a summer camp for the kids from low income homes or broken homes. It has now grown to 10 free summer camps for kids each summer. Now 1,000 children can enjoy a summer camp who would not have this opportunity otherwise. This is Kim and Roxanne's dream. They have 3 children, Mary Jayne, Bethany and Calvin. Calvin, their son lives at home and Roxanne's two daughters are married and have children of their own.
This is our Dream come TRUE!
Every year thousands of children go off to SUMMER CAMP. However, many children that live right around us have never had the privilege of going to summer camp because of financial hardships in the family. For example, children from single parent homes or low income families.
Teen Round-Up, in Duncan, Oklahoma is a non profit organization that has been hosting camps, retreats and free programs for youth and kid’s since 1965.
Our purpose at Teen Round-Up is to host free summer camps for needy children . In June of 1998 the first free summer camp was held. Our goal was to host 8 free summer camps in June and July each summer with 100 children and 25 counselors attending each camp. We reached that goal in 2003. Now with more dorm space, 132 children can attend each camp allowing 1,000 children to attend each summer. The children come from several counties in our state, including Oklahoma City. The camps enable children from many ethnic backgrounds but with similar hurts in their lives to come together and meet new friends from all over our State. At Teen Round-Up they get to experience summer camp fun. Donations come from many local businesses and contributors of Teen Round-Up that help support the camps. If you could see the delight on the children’s faces as they enjoy every activity of the day you would see why the Free Camps are so valuable for our children. The children enjoy 3 days and 2 nights lodging in the remodeled box car dorms, Seven hot Meals, Boat Rides, Feeding Fish, Crafts, Hayrides, Devotions, Crazy Critter Contests, Outdoor Games, a zip line, archery, homemade root beer and a Giant Birthday Party For Everyone where every child receives a party bag of goodies and a Bible with their name imprinted on the cover.
